"We need your help all year round," McLachlan said in a victory speech Tuesday night at the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge in Danbury. "It's not just election season that we need help.
"Republican activists need to write letters to the editor. Our opponents on the other side do that on a regular basis. Voice your opinion on something and stay in touch," he said.
The winners for the State House, are:
- In House District 2, Republican William Duff defeated Democrat Raghib Allie-Brennan to fill the seat left empty when current Rep. Dan Carter decided to run for the U.S. Senate. (Carter lost to incumbent Richard Blumenthal.)
- In House District 107, Republican Stephen G. Harding ran unopposed and won.
- In House District 108, Republican incumbent Richard A. Smith ran unopposed and won.
- In House District 109, Democratic incumbent David Arconti Jr. defeated Republican challenger Veasna Roeun.
In an emotional speech, Roeun said, "It has been a great run. Almost 10 years ago to the day, I was sworn in as an American citizen. ...
"It came with blood, sweat and tears," Roeun said.
- In House District 110, Democratic incumbent Bob Godfrey defeated a challenge from Republican Emanuela Palmares.
- In House District 138, Republican Michael S. Ferguson defeated Democrat Jeff Tomchik to fill an empty seat.
For registrar of voters in Danbury, Democrat Margaret F. Gallo and Republican Mary Ann Doran were re-elected.
Voters will also overwhelmingly approved the following two ballot questions:
- Question 1: Shall the $10 million appropriation and bond authorization for various public projects be approved?
- Question 2: Shall the $10 million appropriation and bond authorization for the design of improvements, upgrades and rehabilitation to the Water Treatment Plant and Facilities System be approved?
For the U.S. Senate, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat, won re-election by topping Republican challenger Dan Carter of Bethel. Carter did not seek re-election to the State House due to his Senate run.
